Vacuum Heat Treatment

Vacuum Heat Treatment

In Heat Treatment at the higher temperatures, metal surfaces react with oxygen, hydrogen, water vapour, and other atmospheric gases to cause undesirable effects including oxidation, decarburization, cracking, corrosion damage, and discoloration. This becomes problematic when finished machine parts are being heat treated. Vacuum heat treating solves this problem by heat-treating in a special vessel in which vacuum is developed by removing all of the air. Quenching is performed using high-velocity gas such as nitrogen/argon. Major applications of vacuum process are in Pressure Die-casting Dies, Plastic Injection Moulds, Plastic Compression Moulds, Cutting Tools, Hot & Warm Forging Dies, Hot & Cold Extrusion Dies, Blanking, Forming, Stamping, Progressive Dies and Lamination Dies.

Why Vacuum Heat Treatment?

A vacuum furnace equipped with 360° gas circulation throughout the workload ensures uniform properties. Also, controllable soaking times, heating rate & cooling rates develop optimum results. Owing to all above criticalities the best microstructure can be obtained. Optimum heat treating process can be developed as entire process data can be stored & retrieved for various analysis. Notable advantages are listed below:

  • Hardness Uniformity throughout the cross-section
  • Superior Thermal Fatigue performance
  • NO oxidation or De-carb on part Surface
  • Uniform Microstructure
  • Negligible Dimensional Distortion
  • Post cleaning not required
  • Uniform temperature throughout the hot zone
  • Uniform & Gradual heating
  • Bright surface finish

Different tool steel materials such as High-speed steel like M2, Hot work steel like H13, Cold work steel like D2 & D3 (WPS), plastic mould steel like Stavax, Precipitation Hardening Steels like 17-4PH and all air-hardening tool steel materials can be vacuum heat treated.

Hardness can be achieved as per the client requirement within the possible hardness range. Till date, we have achieved satisfactory results of hardness in different tool steel materials.

We have an alternate day batch of different materials like M2, D2, H13, Stavax, D3(WPS), etc. Different materials have different process parameters and by considering the batch size, we process the material within 4-5 days.

Our furnace capacity is 600 kg, we charge based on the type of material and its volume. Different materials have a different rate. Also, we give a specific discount depending on the regular/bulk requirement. For more details, kindly contact us.
